If you, or someone you love, has recently placed their faith in Christ, the next step would be to get baptized - an outward step of obedience to physically proclaim what Christ has done in your life.

FAQs

What is the meaning of baptism?

Baptism is a visual and symbolic demonstration of a person’s union with Christ in the likeness of His death and resurrection. It signifies that a person’s former way of life (unbelief) has been put to death and depicts a release from the mastery of sin. (Colossians 2:12, Romans 6:3-4)

Why should I be baptized?

Baptism is obedience to God’s command in Scripture (Matthew 28:18-20).  It is mentioned 70 times in the New Testament.  Jesus himself was baptized as an example for us (Matthew 3:16-17), and baptism gives evidence that a person is a disciple of Christ (Acts 2:38-41).

Who can perform baptism?

Contrary to some traditions, there seems to be no biblical reason to limit the person baptizing to a pastor who has been ordained to vocational ministry. Therefore, (at the discretion of our lead pastor, staff pastors and elders) we allow any believer who has been baptized, male or female, to perform the ordinance of baptism during our Sunday morning gatherings.

Who should be baptized?

Baptism is for the individual who has received the saving benefits of Christ’s atoning work and become His disciple. Therefore, in obedience to Christ’s command and as a testimony to God, the church, oneself, and the world, a believer should be immersed in water in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. (Acts 2:41)

Why is it important that I be baptized by immersion?

Believer’s baptism by immersion was the early church method described in the Bible. Descriptions such as “plenty of water” (John 3:23), “came up out of the water” (Mark 1:5,10), “went down… came up out of” (Acts 8:38-39), make clear that immersion was the practice. No mode of baptism more clearly articulates the centrality of the Christian message (of the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus) than immersion.

How often does First Baptist Church Fairfield perform baptism?

At FBC, we celebrate baptisms several times throughout the year during our Sunday morning gatherings as a church. If you would like to know specific upcoming dates, please contact us and one of our staff members will connect with you.

More Beliefs

  • Lord's Supper

We believe a believer should partake of the elements of the Lord’s Supper with a clean conscience and heart toward God, others, and himself.  The Lord’s Supper was ordained by Jesus Christ to symbolize the sacrifice He made on the cross for our sins.  It is an ordinance of the local New Testament church and as often as observed, is done in remembrance of Jesus Christ. The Lord’s Supper consists of the fruit of the vine, which symbolizes Christ’s shedding of blood for the remission of sins, and the unleavened bread which is broken to symbolize Christ’s broken body on the cross.

  • Evangelism

Every follower of Christ is commanded to proclaim the Good News that Jesus came into the world to save sinners, and as an ambassador for Christ, to urge people to "be reconciled to God" (2 Corinthians 5:20).

  • Fellowship

We believe it is important in the life of a believer to have times of worship, study and service with other Christians. This is best accomplished through the local New Testament church.  Sharing life together is the key to fulfilling both the Commands of Jesus Christ and the Great Commission.

  • Discipleship

We believe that the teaching of Scripture is important in the growth of a Christian.  We are called by Christ to continue to learn and to teach, both from the Bible and our life experiences.  The relational learning of Biblical truths will help equip and edify other believers.

  • Service

We believe that a believer in Jesus Christ should be compelled to serve others in the name of Jesus.  By our faith we are called to live a life of servitude.  As followers of Jesus Christ, we must live a sacrificial life, serving our Lord, fellow believers, and the lost world.

  • Future Things

We believe that the end of the age of grace is approaching.  We believe in “That blessed hope…” the personal, imminent return of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  We believe in the bodily resurrection of the just and of the unjust, the everlasting blessedness of the saved, and the everlasting punishment of the lost.
